To accompany Les Krims: Fictcryptokrimsographs, Graces Mews presents a weekend programme exploring performance across photography and film.
On Saturday 16th May, Graces Mews invites Simon Baker to present on the legacy of performance and surrealism in photography, tracing a lineage of performance and fictional staging in photography, from the documentation of live art performances to constructed, theatrical, and absurd image-making. The talk begins at 5:30pm. RSVP is recommended.
Simon Baker is a freelance curator, writer and curatorial advisor to the Polaroid Foundation. He was director of MEP (Maison Européenne de la Photographie, Paris) from 2018 to 2025, prior to which he was Senior Curator, International Art (Photography) at Tate, London, having been appointed Tate’s first curator of photography in 2009.
